    This downloads the .deb package to your current directory. I think build-essential is the correct package to get gcc, g++ etc.

    Sometimes in Ubuntu, the network configurator struggles to get the ip from the router. This leaving you with a invalid ip. If your router is DHCP enabled, this should'nt be a problem.

    But first safely remove your hdd from windows.
