I am looking to fix a wine problem in another thread. In the interim I have created a new login account and have followed these instructions to install EAC under that profile:

Mark your thread as solved using the Thread Tools pull-down.
I use EAC to extract audio from my CD's. Lately wine has stopped associating with my CD drive. I have tried manually setting the drive in wine config and I've tried all the same using a USB CD...
Hmmm... not sure if /usr is supposed to be entirely owned by root. If it is, then you ought to be able to log in using a live CD and fix that folder ownership recursively (more or less, just like...
So... now every time I reboot it boots into recovery mode. Then I have to comment out my USB fstab entry. Then it boots normally. Then I can uncomment my USB fstab entry and reboot and it boots...
Looks like cd is (by default) changing to $HOME and that variable doesn't get filled (refilled) via sudo.
Hmmm... this is also unexpected.
$ sudo cd
sudo: cd: command not found
EDIT: Looks like sudo doesn't work on built-ins for the shell.
I wonder if pwd is merely echoing the env-variable $PWD?
I am trying to understand how evoking a script with sudo works. In the following script I am confused by the output of the second pwd. I was expecting it to show root's home but instead it shows...
I ran all of the options in Recovery. That did nothing. So I booted to emergency again and edited fstab to comment out all of my additions (two network mounts). Booted fine. Rebooted clean and...
Minidlna's log file filled slash. I deleted the file and rebooted (as I have in the past when this has happened). No matter what I've tried Ubuntu refuses to boot beyond this emergency console.

At the very least this gives me a seeming workaround. If I relaunch Compiz this looks like it will bring expected behavior. I'll play around with my NVidia driver(s), see what that holds.

When I wake my laptop Nautilus windows and pop-ups are surrounded by a field of colorful noise (static) about three-quarters of an inch deep. See my Settings dialog for an example.

I filed a bug over at Launchpad. Thanks.

Ok. I've been working at sussing out this problem for a while now, and I think I'm finally getting close to the source of the matter.
In short, I have an Ubuntu server which is serving a number...
I was able to boot into a fresh Ubu USB drive by choosing from the boot options (something like) "boot from an EFI file" and drilling down into the drive to locate the boot.efi file. Once I pointed...
"Boot order has been set (in the EFI) with both USB options above the OS boot manager. It always boots to Windows. Normally I would disable secure boot but this option seems to be missing."
And...
I am doing a full installation of Ubu 16.04 64 bit to replace the current Win8 installation. I have tried using an Ubu thumbdrive in addition to my usual YUMI drive. Windows cannot be hybernating...
Has anyone successfully installed the latest Ubuntu on an HP Tre 71004? I am having trouble getting my bootable installer noticed. I can't seem to find the usual setting for disabling secure boot. ...

http://askubuntu.com/questions/813171/latest-upstream-samba-on-ubuntu-16-04-how
I offered to test for a bug report I filed concerning Samba on Ubuntu 16.04 and the bug owner has asked me to install the latest upstream version of Samba to compare.
Can anyone help me locate...
Ok, so this is a bit weirder than expected.
I didn't want to mess with an existing machine so I built a new machine with Ubu 16.04 and updated it. I found I was able to mount the (10.04) server...
If you up-arrow you will see your last command. If you post that here we can likely help explain WHY you were stuck in that process's prompt.
Looks like that is a 64 bit capable processor. Prefer the 64 bit version.
