[ubuntu] Re: lucid nm-applet. No longer connects to wifi.

I reported previously that it does not work with my Intel card, however like cubsfan53 it works intermittently, it typically takes 2-3 tries before it works.

[ubuntu] Re: lucid nm-applet. No longer connects to wifi.

Actually, it seems to be an intermittent problem. After many unsuccessful retries, it finally connected. Now it connects something like every third time. With Karmic Koala, it was rock solid. I...

  7. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: Installing VMware Workstation 6.5.3 on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic

Rereading my post, I see that you are absolutely correct. I forgot to write that the script should be named gcc. I guess that was far from obvious ;)

    Thanks for catching it!

  8. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: Installing VMware Workstation 6.5.3 on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic

No, it is not a one-click solution. :-)

You have to cut-and-paste the python script to a file, name it gcc, and make it executable, and make sure that it appears on your PATH before the real gcc...

[SOLVED] Re: Moved swap partition: Hibernate fails

Solved! I searched in all folders under /etc for the string UUID and found the old UUID in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

I updated the UUID in that file, and ran "update-initramfs -u". That...

[ubuntu] Re: Laptop overheating! in Karmic

Often, when a laptop overheats it is due to dust accumulating on the CPU cooler plate. You can get cans of compressed air in electronics equipment stores, blowing air in through the air outlet of...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Disable thermal module of acpi in ubuntu 9.10

Absolutely! It allows for anything from medium to king-size disasters :-)

Do make a boot CD first, take backups, and be prepared for the worst...

It is entirely possible that less drastic...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Disable thermal module of acpi in ubuntu 9.10

You could try to recompile your own kernel, and leave out the thermal zone acpi support. I have not tried to compile kernels under ubuntu, but essentially you need to install kernel-sources, go to...
