just got done with this exact thing.
the top one (/dev/sata1) is for the company (dell) software.
the second one appears to be a system recovery partition. could be wrong on that one tho.

decided to install windows 7 instead. if i get my hands on a copy of xp, might use virtualbox if i NEED xp.

after weighing my options and trying a few of the suggestions, i have decided to try to track down a windows XP disk use that instead.
XP was OEM on the laptop...
