Had this happen when downgrading to 10.04. but after some trial and error i belive it was due to a malfunctioning graphics card or the card overheating. when mine froze i could do nothing.
There all worth trying. sticking with and using day to day is a different story though.
the disc can stack up if you don't run them from a USB or Virtual though.
Not allot to offer here but for me it was easy to find,recognize and get help for. I think the question should be, What are the real reasons for Ubuntu's success. The logo is pretty shlick as well ;)
