In Terminal I switch to the approriate directory and type in sudo vmware-install.pl but all I get is command not found

This is in a Ubuntu 11.10 install in VM-Ware Workstation 8....

I'm not sure what all those parameters are for, but I will say this: ALL my problems ended when I switched to Linux Mint and disabled COMPIZ.

Did anyone mention that Linux will not recognize a USB HDD if it was previously mounted on a Windows OS, unless you use the Windows "Safely Remove Device" feature.

What file system is on the USB, ext3 or NTFS etc..

Use Administration --> System Monitor, click the "File Systems" tab, it should show /dev/sda1 ext3 for your main drive and /dev/sdb1 ... etc....

Have you tried right clicking on the drive Icon?
If it says MOUNT click it and then browse the drive.
