Sikander's list of commands unfortunately didn't seem to do anything- most were met with either no response or a list of "0 new 0 installed" etc. Ubuntu still freezes the same way at login.
I'll...
Grldr is no more, now I'm off to try that other string of commands. Will post back shortly. Thanks a ton for your help so far!
Alright thanks, I'll do that after Rubi tells me how to get rid of grldr, since I'm on Livecd anyway.
Not only do I not know, but I have no clue what it is or how to go about deleting it. I haven't had to mess with this stuff much in the past, sorry :(
@Sikander, how do I know what to put in place of eth0? Alternatively, is this something I can do from the livecd rather than the recovery console?
Boot script output (spoiler and hide tags don't seem to work on this forum, is there an alternative? Until then huge post woo!)
Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010 ...
It's not a wubi install, it has its own partition.
I'll do the boot script and post back when that's done, thanks.
Update manager bugged me about installing updates as per usual, I let it do its thing, rebooted a little after it asked me to... and now the system freezes on login (login menu works as usual...
I never said a thing about Windows being better. I run a Windows partition on my main computer that gives me 50x the problems of Ubuntu easily (but I am addicted to gaming). I'm just saying that this...
Tried it, didn't work. Inserted "i915.modeset=0" into the "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX" field, saved, ran update-grub, rebooted... and nothing's changed. Either it's a coincidence that I have the same problem...
I installed 9.10 on a computer I'm working on, and right away the graphics went out. It won't display the proper resolution without shoving the display significantly to the left.
After MUCH...
I'm going to jack this thread because my microphone also doesn't work. I type aslamixer in the terminal and it doesn't recognize the command
Man I really do tend to make threads without replies...
One more bump... anyone?
-.-
So I got this laptop with Ubuntu installed, and never could figure out how to get a mic working. I plug a mic into the port, and the machine just doesn't recognize it. When I try to open sound...
Come on, nobody wants an awesomely bizarre project? You get to rip apart a browser :D
So I'm trying to get a browser-based game in Ubuntu and Ventrillo running through Wine to work concurrently. I got Vent to work fine, but when I run this Java game it disrupts Vent and that won't...
Dang, might just have to use my Windows partition for this. I was trying to keep it offline for obvious reasons :P
I'm sorry, but does anyone else have any clue what the problem might be? :(
Huh. So, I did all of that, and as a result I was for some reason able to install the Gecko mediaplayer plugin thing. Now Firefox THINKS that it is playing the midi file, but there's no sound. I am...
There's no mplayer package installed.
Ubuntu 8.04, and yes, I'm using Synaptic.
I also suspect the package manager is broken, how can I go about fixing that? Is it possible that just formatting and reinstalling from scratch would fix...
I'm sorry if I missed it in your post, but what then should I install in order to stream MIDI from online? I have all of the packages beginning with gstreamer in Synaptic already.
By the way,...
