    [ubuntu] Re: Update destroyed 10.10

Windows boots normally, but seems to have discovered that it's a pirated copy. Oddly, that doesn't seem to have any negative effects yet, it just tells me about it. Luckily I don't use Windows much...

    [ubuntu] Re: Update destroyed 10.10

Sikander's list of commands unfortunately didn't seem to do anything- most were met with either no response or a list of "0 new 0 installed" etc. Ubuntu still freezes the same way at login.

    I'll...

Not only do I not know, but I have no clue what it is or how to go about deleting it. I haven't had to mess with this stuff much in the past, sorry :(

    [ubuntu] Re: Update destroyed 10.10

@Sikander, how do I know what to put in place of eth0? Alternatively, is this something I can do from the livecd rather than the recovery console?

It's not a wubi install, it has its own partition.

I'll do the boot script and post back when that's done, thanks.

[ubuntu] Re: Grub problems in Ubuntu 9.10

I never said a thing about Windows being better. I run a Windows partition on my main computer that gives me 50x the problems of Ubuntu easily (but I am addicted to gaming). I'm just saying that this...

[ubuntu] Re: Grub problems in Ubuntu 9.10

Tried it, didn't work. Inserted "i915.modeset=0" into the "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX" field, saved, ran update-grub, rebooted... and nothing's changed. Either it's a coincidence that I have the same problem...

[ubuntu] Grub problems in Ubuntu 9.10

I installed 9.10 on a computer I'm working on, and right away the graphics went out. It won't display the proper resolution without shoving the display significantly to the left.

    After MUCH...

I'm going to jack this thread because my microphone also doesn't work. I type aslamixer in the terminal and it doesn't recognize the command

  17. [ubuntu] Microphone/sound recording completely broken

So I got this laptop with Ubuntu installed, and never could figure out how to get a mic working. I plug a mic into the port, and the machine just doesn't recognize it. When I try to open sound...

  19. [ubuntu] Unusual request- disabling browser audio?

So I'm trying to get a browser-based game in Ubuntu and Ventrillo running through Wine to work concurrently. I got Vent to work fine, but when I run this Java game it disrupts Vent and that won't...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't install Mplayer for Firefox

Huh. So, I did all of that, and as a result I was for some reason able to install the Gecko mediaplayer plugin thing. Now Firefox THINKS that it is playing the midi file, but there's no sound. I am...

I'm sorry if I missed it in your post, but what then should I install in order to stream MIDI from online? I have all of the packages beginning with gstreamer in Synaptic already.
