    Re: Networking Issues

So it's the firewall rules and setup you are having trouble with - right?

Can you explain how the iptables rules got in there in the first place? A default install doesn't have any iptables...

Re: sshd listening on wrong ports

I suspect that xinetd is listening on port 32 and sshd is listening on port 22. You should not need to use xinetd at all for sshd - I recommend that you remove the xinetd configuration again.

    As...

  5. Re: curl( or wget) DNS requests not reading /etc/hosts file

I think chrome always uses the "system settings" for the proxy, though I can't be sure as I don't have it installed. And I think it is desktop dependent too. Firefox is much better in that regard....
  6. Re: curl( or wget) DNS requests not reading /etc/hosts file

    try adding the option
--noproxy '*' and see if that fixed it.

or remove the proxy from the environment first:

    proxy=
    curl <blah>
  7. Re: I can't implement x11 forwarding through SSH

I think that maybe your trying to do the forwarding manually (with exporting display IDs etc) has broken the normal ssh -X working. I'm pretty sure that ssh -X uses displays other than :0. I also...
  8. Re: Server 13.10 - Gigabit Ethernet low bandwidth in one direction and RX CRC Errors

I would definitely check the duplex setting of the switch port that connects to the server. All your errors are frame checksum errors, and that many generally indicates a duplex mismatch rather than...

Hi apophis2, sorry for the delay in answering.
Your netstat output shows that sshd is indeed listening - the port is not really closed.

    [SOLVED] Re: floppy permisions
