yeah, although it makes wine apps a lot better looking, it drags down speed tremendously for some reason
thats what xgame is for, i can play games like quake iii now because of it - u dont have to swtich back (it opens a new session i believe)
oh and that happens right after i select the options, and planetfall happens, it asks me to name my first city, i press enter and bam its gone
i also cannot get alpha centauri to work, i've followed many of the suggestions but end up getting this

i find gnome MUCH more customizable, flashy and quick. it gets the job done. i used gnome for a couple of months but quickly got hooked on kde.
i have the same "choosepixelformat failed" error - i'm runnign with an ati mobility m6 ly and kde, but have found no solution yet :/

try setting the winecfg to 16 bit res instead of the default (for me at least) 24. it speeds up sc quite fast.
ive got a speedstep on my 800/1.2ghz dell c610 laptop and when i install cpufreq it cant seem to recognize my cpu speedstep capabilities - powernowd, however, just keeps the processor at 66%
