Yep, old version working for me now also. Is it worth installing the latest version? What the improvements like?
I don't think it's working for anyone at present, a bug report can be found here
No problem here
I'm going to answer my own Question, the answer is NO NO NO stick with the open source driver.
Having decided to give it a try after rebooting was only left with the background, no dash/launcher no...
Which is why have not yet tried to activate it. Think I will wait for more info to be provided on the situation.
Seems like a lot of people have been caught out by this especially those that...
The proprietary drivers are showing just not sure whether to activate one or not, not sure I have the patience to sort out a black screen after reboot :)
My graphic card is an ATI HD Radeon 5430 series
After a fresh 12.10 install the driver in use is

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to spend the next two evenings making sure I have every thing backed-up (realy should purchase more cloud space) then do my fresh 64bit install at the weekend....

It's recommended because some hardware cannot run 64-bit but most can run 32-bit. so for those who are not sure can get the 32-bit without issue.
A few months back I installed 12.04 on a separate hard drive just to keep track of developments. during that time I noticed that the resolution was not great, everything seemed just a little blurry....
I thought Ubuntu eyeware was one of the funniest I've seen today. Totally love the expression "facial productivity" and how they are connected to a car battery for it's power source :lolflag:
I am responsible for 8 people fully converting to Linux
2 because viruses completely destroyed their Windows installations and they never had any kind of backup or installation discs.

A much safer way of tweaking Unity is via Ubuntu Tweak found in USC
In an effort to get this working I have tried a few things, and now seem to be able to get the game working (though not how it is supposed to)

I had a problem with the kernel when my son upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10.
He had the same result as you have. I was able to get round it by booting into an older kernel that was available to me in...
You don't have to use Wubi to dual boot.
10.04 Lucid Lynx will be supported until April 2013. When you do need to Upgrade you could try using gnome shell if Unity is not for you.
It's the beauty of Linux, there are always other options;)
When you are in the Grub boot-loader menu try booting using a previous version if there is one listed.
Bit difficult to judge what is going wrong but it might be worth checking out this thread
