  1. Latest auto-update [11 Dec 2014] destroys working nouveau configuration

This morning's auto update installed nvidia-331-updates _and_ switches the configuration from nouveau to nvidia, even though I don't run the binary driver.

Plus, since I run custom kernels, dkms...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: old bugs still plaguing ubuntu installation

Well, I worked around the lack of hid drivers on the mini iso with an old corded keyboard that I found in the basement ;)

About installing on an existing fakeraid, it was pretty hairy and I'm not...

    [ubuntu] Re: fakeraid?

Don't bother... figured it out myself.
  4. [ubuntu] Re: old bugs still plaguing ubuntu installation

I managed to figure it out using a different method but thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Has any progression been made installing +1 on fakeraid? If so, how?

    Re: General Question

Obviously, the issue revolves around the '(recommended)' tag.

With only 2 options, why pigeon-hole selection with a drop-down box? 2 buttons requires too much screen real-estate?
  11. [ubuntu] old bugs still plaguing ubuntu installation

After working out/contributing to/fixing many of the bugs in my daily desktop (oneiric), I was finally ready to fresh-install quantal. I use evolution as my mailer and the imap bugs were becoming...

    Re: GRUB boot screen/TTY resolution

Yes. There were many, many, many changes to the linux kernel in the last year and half. This is one of them.

That's interesting. Are you certain you followed my previous instructions?
    Of...
  13. Re: Kernel crashes related to nvidia [thread restart]

    I'm still working on it.

I finally have firewire setup so that I can capture the kernel log after the machine has died, so now I'm just waiting for the crash.

    Unfortunately, I wasn't as...

    Re: Poor Design

My main gripe with Unity's interpretation of taskbar functionality (what you refer to as Expose/Scale) is that it brings to the foreground *all* of the (toplevel) windows of every instance -- there's...
  16. [SOLVED] Re: Server Install Problem... Keyboard not working??

    He's complaining about the install.
Drivers are missing on several of the install isos that make keyboard input impossible.
Although that brings up an interesting point: maybe the server install...
  17. Depmod doesn't search /lib/modules/*/extra

Just discovered that depmod no longer searches /lib/modules/*/extra anymore.
That change now obsoletes a number of long-standing wiki instructions about how to build out-of-tree modules 'the ubuntu...

  19. Re: Kernel crashes related to nvidia [thread restart]

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately for me, it doesn't apply as I still have 295.33 without the security patch on dual G84s (Quadro FX 570).
  20. Re: Kernel crashes related to nvidia [thread restart]

I saw that. PITA but bodhi meant well though.

I'm going to try to reproduce it today running a firewire console so I can do a memory dump of the kernel log even with unavailable cpu cores. This...

Re: 12.04 -- April 14/15 Updates Nvidia Regression

The kernel panic referred to in one of the threads that was merged you wouldn't see because the video driver hard locks so the only clue to what happened is a flashing capslock and scrolllock.

Damn, too late. Sorry. I'd decided it was a stupid question. Obviously not.

    I'm on 3.2.0-23-generic.
  23. Re: Kernel crashes related to nvidia [thread restart]

What kernel ('uname -a') are you on?

I wouldn't yet append your logs -- might just obfuscate the problem when I do finally grab the panic on the debug console.
  24. Re: Kernel crashes related to nvidia [thread restart]

    Original post by shadowfirebird

No, I can't catch the panic, either. Presumably I should append my logs, as above, to 'your' bug?
  25. Re: Kernel crashes related to nvidia [thread restart]

    Yes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/978342

I think it's related to 3.2.0-22+ kernel + nvidia drivers as well but have yet to capture the panic. Doesn't happen for me at all with ...
