My issue is that grub-pc is set as recommended/dependency for linux-image (beside lilo which I also do not want) resulting in getting it installed again every kernel-upgrade and has to me removed...

The ASIX drivers are runnign fine using Ubuntu 13.04. Compared to a USB 2.0 dongle I get reasonable more network performance out if (17+ MB/s instead of less about 11MB/s on my cheap home network)....

Do yourself a favour and bin the b43 stuff. Switch to the bcmwl drivers - much more stable and performant.

Yeah, just read the rEFInd notes on their homepage and ignore the part saying you should not install from within Linux (but OSX, I did the manual installation in Linux). There is a refind_linux.conf...
3.8.0.11 worls fine over here.
Why do you use grub btw? you should switch to rEFInd, I find it sooo much easier and smarter, no bootloader anymore...
When runnung Fedora18 I had the SD Card working with a single SD Card, but any other card also gave errors. I've that card not available anymore and did not find any card so far working with Ubuntu....

You should not specif both DPI and DisplaySize as they overwrite each other, I'd recommend to stick with Displaysize. This reveals 221x217 dpi for my 15" Retina.
