Looks clean. Just to make sure: these logs are from *after* having forced a logout and logging in again? Can you also post the output of:
cat /var/log/syslog
It will show if any...
The log did show a few segfaults related to flash. What you can test is: do a clean boot, don't start any other programs (especially firefox/flash) and see if you can trigger the logout using MakeMKV...
Could you show the output of dmesg after you have had to re-login? Make the automatic logout happen, login again, open a terminal (Applications-->Accessories-->Terminal) and run:

Just put a # character in front of that line (it will turn into a comment, and will be ignored):
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
And make that line look like:

That likely means the harddrive is failing. sda is usually the harddrive, but it could be the dvd drive in some configurations. If you have a dvd in the dvd-drive, see if removing it changes things....
Try pressing ctrl-alt-F3. This will put you into a console. Login, then run:

sudo apt-get upgrade
If that worked, take a look if things improved:

Could be that the soundcard is still claimed by the previous OS. Does shutting down windows produce a shutdown tune? Disabling that sound might do the trick.
In XP: go to Start -> Control Panel ->...
Does the hang perhaps happen with the usb 3.0 ports only? I ask because the xhci_hcd driver appears to be in active development still (see for example:...
You can try fixing your installation by chrooting from a live cd. What you do is: boot into a live session and use the hard-drive's filesystem as the session's root filesystem. Then update/upgrade....
Try running:
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get update
And if that doesn't help, this command:

Boot into a live session, and mount your harddrive onto the live filesystem. Make a note where it is mounted at. You can take a look with:

It's probably something ugly like...
Alt /, Escape / or Escape ? are working fine for me. One thing to investigate is if you have a .nano_history file in your home folder. In a terminal, run:
ls -l $HOME/.nano_history
to see if...
On your board (GA-P35-DS3L) it's called the "CPU EIST Function" (EIST = Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology).
And let's bump my question: do you obtain a truly lower overclock when ACPI is enabled...
I think the phrase "outcomes" is used in different ways in that statement.
I'm not sure I understand the issue: do you obtain a truly lower overclock when ACPI is enabled (system becomes unstable earlier), or is it a matter of frequencies that are reported wrong?
If it's...
This did the trick for me:
if (x == input->absinfo[ABS_X].value)
(absinfo is a struct itself, so you also have to specify a member.) Good luck.
How old is that computer? Anyway, try booting the livecd with the "noapic" parameter. On the default livecd you can set that option by pressing F6 from the boot menu (directly after choosing the...
Is Cool&Quiet perhaps disabled in the BIOS? Frequency scaling is working fine for me on Maverick (2.6.35 or 2.6.36-rc8). See:
dmesg | grep powernow

Synaptic has this little bit of info about the weather-applet (part of the gnome-applets package):
Lots of benchmarks in this thread:

Don't know if it's TRIM for sure, but *something* is performing magic on Maverick for SSD performance. When running the System->Administration->Disk Utility->Benchmark (Read-Only Benchmark), results...
Ok, so hardware is recognized, and a module is loaded. Go to System-->Preferences-->Sound and take a look at the Hardware and Output options to see if everything is unmuted and the correct profiles...
