From what I have read I could install something like 7.04-9.04 and live with the driver, but thats a bit outdated. The newest of that lot is 8.04 which ended in may this year. Of course, I would...
I had a case of this in my old laptop, where it would show in Windows that the disk was fine, and in any linux distro it would say that it had 2184 bad sectors and could die any second. I could...

Assaultcube is a good shooting game with q reduced violence mode function.
Just had a thought that it *might* be because my /home partition and swap (although i am not talking about the swap) is on another hard drive in my machine.
EDIT: IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!! I installed...
After reading the nomodeset link you provided, this is not what I mean. After a bit of googling, the problem is to do with KDE/Kubuntu/Plasma. I am not sure what to do as I can move the mouse around...
I have a Leadtek WinFast A360le 128mb agp 8x (nvidia geforce fx 5700le td). I will give 'nomodeset' a go.
I'm going to reinstall it, just to make sure nothing went wrong on that font. I'll just play kPatience to pass the time :)
What's it like then? Spill those beans. xD
Still, being in the live USB is enough at the moment. Shame I didnt put a persistance on it. I could play a few more games with the nvidia drivers :D
Well I downloaded the Kubuntu 12.04.3 ISO file and used the startup disk creator to make a bootable USB. I gave it a whirl and chose to install it. After logging in, I got the problem posted here:...
Hi guys
I installed Kubuntu 12.04.3 LTS and, of course, logged in. I was greeted with the small Kubuntu loading icons, then I was greeted by a black screen with a mouse (movable). After about 5...
Hi.
I was just thinking of giving Kubuntu a go and just wanted to know the basics and other people's experiences of Kubuntu. And what bugs are there in Kubuntu 13.10 32-bit :)
Thanks
To update to 12.04 LTS in your situation, backup everything that you need, and do a full install of 12.04 LTS.
P.S. Welcome to the Ubuntu Forums! :)
I would suggest using something like Lubuntu or Xubuntu. I have an old pc that I use as a machine to play dvds and music on (Pentium III Malay 823MHz, 256mb ram, nvidia quadro nvs 55/280 64mb...
What does this actually... do..?
and I also switched to Xubuntu 12.04
Thanks guys but I just gave into using my old monitor, and using my TV for my media PC (my old old pc) and xbox. :)
Ok. So. I removed the old mode, I created the new mode, and if you didn't see it coming, there was another error.
willmcdade@xw6000:~$ xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output...
Nope! Still no. :(
xrandr --output default --mode 1920x1200 --rate 60
brought back
After that, I then got
willmcdade@xw6000:~$ xrandr --output default --mode 1920x1200_60.00
xrandr: cannot find mode 1920x1200_60.00
This is a bit annoying.
Ok, BIIIIIIG problem. Just installed the nvidia 173 drivers. NOW I get this output when I do
xrandr --current
