    I'm a Mac. And I'm a PC. And I'm human. Where's your god now?

    Re: Plymouth.

It would be nice to get Plymouth for JJ, but I seriously doubt it's going to happen.
Ubuntu is very conservative when it comes to the bootup process. We spent a lot of time hacking together usplash...

Re: Reverse engineering Adobe Acorbat Pro

cups-pdf does the same just fine. Granted, I can't do printer optimization with that, but it's good enough for 90% of my requirements.

    Re: Ubuntu wont start up

Could be that you're seeing bug #263059 too. Maybe you can contribute information to that report.
  5. Re: Ubuntu 8.10 network manager = 2 steps back?

I'm asking myself why there is no message or notice that allows me to comfortably install the right packages (just like codecs in totem or gtk-engines in gnome-appearance-properties).

Re: WHAT THE HELL! Latest Update

If it's that urgent, just boot into Windows, install a driver for the ext2 file system and grab it from there.
But you shouldn't really use Intrepid in a production environment with critical data...

    Re: Ibex has no font-viewer?

The font viewer was dropped upstream with no apparent plans to replace it.
It's really strange. A corresponding bug report was closed as "invalid".

Insane number of wakeups per second?

    Hello community,

This probably isn't realted to Intrepid directly, but I'm posting it here anyways because this happens on a testing system.

  9. Re: MySQL to replace Gconf etc. - is it practical?

Besides from being not right for the task, MySQL would pull a massive amount of dependencies in and add a heavier daemon to your memory (gconfd-2 uses 2.5MiB, whereas mysqld uses over 18.6MiB).
    So,...

Canonical does not use FOSS software?

    Hey,
A bit of trivia: I just noticed that the guys at Canonical don't seem to be using Open Software themselves.
Check out any Canonical supplied PDF (e.g....
  11. Re: wacom and hardy users, is it plug n play now?

My problem with my tablet was always that I had to have it plugged in before X started. Then everything would work flawlessly. If I'd plug it in during an active session, the tablet would only work...

Re: Can you use a tablet with Inkscape?

You can use the pressure and tilt functions of your tablet for the Calligraphy Tool. For all the other tools, I think you're limited to mouse-like interaction.
  13. Re: [new application] Thumbnailer for audio files

Nope, what you see is the standard sound overlay produced by nautilus what.
    Going to look into it.
  14. Re: [new application] Thumbnailer for audio files

Yes you are. Did you relogin/kill nautilus after you installed the package?
If you'd like to generate a thumb manually you have to supply an input filename and an output filename.

    Example:

  15. Re: [new application] Thumbnailer for audio files

The libsox-fmt-* packages are available from the universe repositories (at least in hardy). However, they are missing in all earlier repositories.
I would take a wild guess and say that these were...

    Re: Ubinto Studio 8.04 screenshots.

Kudos for the GDM screen! I don't really care for gray skins, but I understand they do something for artists, so I guess that's fine too.
I am however not so sure that this wallpaper will work with...
