  1. Re: Do NOT select Discard on Shutdown when you copy 13.04 .ISO to a USB Stick!

    Why not just do
    sudo dd if=/path/to/iso of=/path/to/usb/drive bs=1M?

    Re: Sound broke overnight

We are lucky, it could have been a broken init system. :D
  3. [all variants] Re: Brainstorming - why can't the live media offer a version downgrade?

Everything other than a rollback is error-prone and the process to recover from a broken downgrade is anything but human-friendly. ;)

[SOLVED] Re: new user passwords are now 'judged'

Why set a password at all if you use a weak one?

You can log in as root, so they don't.

  10. Re: How many times a day do you accidentally bring up the Unity bar?

Heh, I switched with Unity. Never liked panels hiding and I certainly wouldn't want to hide Unity's top panel, but the launcher bar doesn't offer any real information that I'm not already aware of,...

Re: Recovery Mode boots to root promt

Same as above, or: what if they've accidentally removed the package 'sudo'?

The current state is intended, therefore by definition not a bug.

I'd just make sure they can't reboot. :P
  15. Re: What you would like to see, changed or fixed in Precise Pangolin ?

Yes, swap should be as fast as possible, but certainly not at the cost of putting system files at a worse position on-disk. :-o If you constantly need swap, then you have not enough RAM.
  16. Re: What you would like to see, changed or fixed in Precise Pangolin ?

A bug-fix-only cycle for Unity and Compiz (maybe focus on multi-monitor setups).

A unified Unity/Unity 2D settings module in the control center.

Re: Cleaning Thermal Grease off laptop CPU

I use 2-propanol (isopropyl alcohol). Cheap to get at any pharmacy (doesn't need to be the pure stuff which is slightly more expensive).

What point? The "XY sucks because I have a bug that makes it slow on my system" or the "I say GNOME 3 when I mean GNOME Shell"? >:P

Re: Good that Ubuntu chose Unity not Gnome3

I think it's important that they are configurable the same way. So you don't have to use ccsm/dconf-editor for one and gconf-editor for the other. Maybe a centralized single configuration module...
