    I believe it is an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse.

    When he booted into Xubuntu it prompted for a key. I told him to enter '0000'....

    after update pciid the lspci are equal now. both say GM204 [GeForce GTX 970]

    added the marley ppa
    update
    then

    $ sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

    The xubuntu 14.04.2 install uses 3.16.00-44
    The kubuntu 14.20 uses 3.16.00-43

    14.04.2 just came out this year and my hardware is all 2014 (GTX 970)

    So still don't understand what is going on

    Had to install nVidia drivers from edgers ppa.
    Once that was done booting was smooth.

    Gigabyte H97N-wifi, i5 4590, samsung 840, wd black 4TB, Asus Strix 970

    Live USB would go to black screen after grub until I learned to press 'e' and replace 'splash quiet'...

    so it is a possible for a router (or software and router) to report which programs are using how much? Or is it divided by type of traffic? Sorry, networking is not my specialty.

    with 11.2 enabled the navigation bars scale properly
    with v 12 enabled the navigation bars don't
