Up until KDE 3.5, I was in the KDE camp. Then they changed it and I went back to Gnome. I've gotten used to Gnome, so that's what I use.
Who cares? Only me. It's matter of personal preference....
Try this :
1. install (if you haven't already) hplip and hplip-gui
sudo apt-get install hplip hplip-gui
2. issue the following, and following the instructions
sudo hp-setup -i
Just went through a very similar experience. I have the HP Laserjet 1020, which is very similar to yours and uses the same driver. I got mine to work by installing hplip, it's in the repo's, then,...
I agree with whoever said neither. As a matter of personal taste, I don't like all the clutter on my desktop.
This happens to be one of the problem area for me. For some unknown reason I keep needing to be reminded of even the basics of partitioning, although I've done it sucessfully several times. So,...
Good site. Thanks.
Amarok works great with Ubuntu Gnome. I got addicted to it on my KDE disro.
Very nice blog! As a user for some years, the matters which gave me the most problems were....Grub (already mentioned), partitioning (distro hopping diasters), configuring my system for my printer...
Amarok and it runs just fine on Gnome. Since I just recently moved to Gnome and formally used KDE I had to have Amarok, just because I'm used to it.
I somewhat agree. I installed and removed Amarok 2.0 within 30 minutes. I just didn't like it as well as the older version. None of my playlists, radio stations, music and podcasts were pulled...
As I've been Window-less and using Linux for almost eight years, almost forgot about anti-virus gunk. None here.
One, of many, great things about Linux is the freedom to have whatever theme one wants. I'm one of these nuts that spend entirely too time fussing over my "theme", with constant changes and never...
Why care about the theme? Doubt very few actually keep the default theme for long. I change mine all the time. Doesn't look anything close to the default Intrepid theme. Same will happen with the...
I got into Arch about long enough to figure out I didn't want any part of it. Had no intention of spending so much time tinkering about. Instead went with sidux and love it.
Ideally, you should learn to install all the extras yourself. I have and no longer require these programs. It's not as hard as you may think and you have better control over what is, or not,...
Ideally, all distos should be shown on DistroWatch, regardless of the name, IMO. That said, the owner of DistroWatch has the right (freedom) to run his website. Freedom isn't one-sided.
Been eight years since I had Windows - but, gosh, I hated the fluff I had to go through just to maintain the system. Only maintenance required is the keep the system updated, keep the trash emptied...
If it don't work in Linux, it won't work at all here. We use only Linux.
Each desktop environment has it's own pros and cons, which depend on the likes and dislikes of the individual user. Ubuntu/Kubuntu are both based on Debian (after a fashion) with different...
Yeah, "love" is a tad strong. But, I get along very well with the command line. I actually prefer using it.
Starbucks. There's a few "chains" that also are very good..Peeks and Deidrichs comes to mind. Best local I've tried was in Amherst, Massachusetts...Rao's. Here, (Texas), it's either Starbucks or...
To utter and absolute shock and amazement of no one Ubuntu wins. In Ubuntu forums. Neither profound nor helpful.
I had the same issue in Kubuntu. My HP printer was working fine, had worked then didn't. Finally got it resolved. Check out www.linuxprinting.org search on your specific printer and follow the...
