You have a hardware wifi switch (I think it is a switch on the side). Press that.

Very odd HDD problem

Did you try WINE? If you have a copy of Win7 lying around, install the handwriting software into Wine, which will directly place it into Ubuntu.

Yes. Sometimes track pads are so sensitive, that you can hold your finger a 1/2 inch away and it will recognize it.
Try lowering sensitivity. It worked for me.

The only reason I like Cairo is that it is VERY customizable.
AWN is good, it is just featureless in terms of launchers.

I also noticed that Cairo makes a space at the bottom for the dock, but stays at the top. I am attaching screen shots of it in 'bottom' mode and 'right' mode.
