[SOLVED] Re: 9.10 Installation Setup Freezing

How did you end up solving this, was the disc burn faulty? I'm having exactly the same problem.
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Cannot delete "awn-manager" launcher

The "Launcher/Task Manager" applet requires at least one launcher to be listed. To remove that useless icon you have 2 options:

    1. Add a new launcher for something and delete the awn-manager one....

    Netbeans 6.1

Does anyone know why Netbeans 6.01 is in the repositories, not Netbeans 6.1? It's a great IDE, and I would prefer to use the newer version.

    Re: Apache and GPL licences

After a bit more research I have found the answer to my own question. The Apache License v2.0 is GNU compatible, which means I can use GPL v3 for the whole project. Yay!

    Re: 2D side-scroller game

    OK, you have 3 options.

    1. Learn a programming language and make a game from scratch
    2. Replace the graphics in an existing game
    3. Use a program like Game Maker or The Game Factory to make the...

    Re: Java game project

Thanks for the links, I'll take a look around. Will I run into any trouble using Java? I've tried using C++, but I find Java easier to use.

I am working on a game library for Java. I only migrated to Ubuntu a few months ago (woohoo!), so I'm not very familiar with the way open source projects are handled. I have started working on the...

I agree that occasional smilies and lols are OK, but some of the posts I have read are absolutely ridiculous! Excessive use of capitals and exclamation marks make the text shout at you, and I would...

Exactly. I understand that spelling and grammar mistakes occur. I'm not trying to put down people who can't write perfectly (I fall in that category too). I am just trying to say that the forums...

    General note for forum users

I don't wish to sound too strict, but I find it very hard to help people that believe each word should contain only 3 letters. Please try to refrain from using "MSN speak" (Ahhhhh, Miscrosoft!) on...

    Re: Packaging Java source code

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at Ant. I will create bytecode versions of each project, but I want to be open source friendly so that other Java programmers can get ideas from what I do.

Re: Compile any file to < 1KB

    1. Read two bytes.
    2. Convert to integer by using byte1 * 128 + byte2
    3. This integer takes up 15 bits.
    4. To reverse: byte1 = integer % 128
    if integer < 0
    byte2 = Math.ceil(integer / 128 )...

Re: gui in java... bit of help

I also strongly recommend that you use NetBeans. It makes making GUIs a breeze. I also recommend that you use Swing. It doesn't take up as much system resources as AWT.

Compile any file to < 1KB
