  1. [SOLVED] Re: 14.04 libnl update broke Network Manager and Network

I have just finished reinstalling 14.04 to get around this major problem - what an absolute disgrace releasing these obviously fatally faulty updates.

  3. [lubuntu] Re: Mail runs from command line, not from shell script

The issue is possibly that when you run the /bin/bash shell you are implementing a different environment to the current shell that you are already in.

This should tell you what shell you are...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu doesn't detect usb stick after formatting it

If Ubuntu and Windows cannot format it then it is possibly a faulty device.

    [ubuntu] Re: VMware workstation questions

You have things the wrong way around. VM's use the host resources, if you want to "isolate" Windows 8 from the Internet put it in a VM without a network connection.

You can use Ubuntu as a host...

Re: Recommend me a bare metal Hypervisor

You should be able to use "Passthrough" video with an additional video card with ESXi. It just has to be compatible hardware that ESXi recognises.

[SOLVED] Re: can't boot into GUI due to VMWare

Most likely nothing to do with VMware. You probably have installed a new Nvidia driver that is not compatible with your current kernel.

Try booting from the previous kernel and see what happens.
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Choosing primary display on radeon open source drivers

    Install the fglrx-updates & fglrx-amdcccle-updates packages, then:

    sudo amdconfig --initial

Now you should have a xorg.conf file.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Choosing primary display on radeon open source drivers

    sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Find the code blocks that look similar to these (from my system) and add in the highlighted lines, then save the changes and reboot:

    Section "Monitor"
    ...
  12. [SOLVED] Re: Hotmail account will not work with any email program

Exactly, you must use SSL and port 995 to access the mail server.

If you are not following these instructions exactly then you are wasting everybody's time.
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu - we have a problem and that problem is Unity, it keeps coming back!

[ubuntu] Re: general desplay info for servers

"Software" does exist, you simply write your own script to output the data to the console tty port and refresh every few seconds. Every single tool to do this is in the base Linux install.
  15. Re: Error: unknown file system with new motherboard

Putting the same Video card in different hardware invariably means that the xorg.conf settings will now be wrong and it will cause problems.

Do a search on replacing the xorg.conf file with a...

  18. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu LIve 12.04 cd 32 bit - fsck: fsck.ntfs: not found

The badblocks man page says it was written for the EXT filesystems, I would have serious doubts that it will work for NTFS.

Re: POSTFIX on LAMP server sending tons of SPAM

If you have someone/something hacking your web sites then it is nothing to to with your mail server, look in your web server logs to find out what is going on.
  20. Re: Error: unknown file system with new motherboard

Check AHCI or RAID settings in the BIOS, turn them back to IDE if you can and see if that helps.

Check the RAM to make sure it is functioning without errors with MEMTEST.
