  1. Re: Do you use dd-wrt or OpenWrt on your router? Tell us about it!

You can flash all routers with an open firmware. Of course if you don't want to hack firmwares yourself, you want a router that already got a big community.

The firmware I use on my WRT54GL is...
  2. Re: "Cherry keyboard for linux" Cant wait? Your posts here!

Hmm this keyboard is available in Germany since 2004. I didn't write on it yet, so I can't comment about it, but Cherry keyboards are usually good and reliable.
  3. Re: HOWTO: Latest openssh compiled with latest openssl

The package is called "openssh-server"and resides in the repository "main". However the package in Debian (and therefore also in Ubuntu) is kind of outdated, because the package maintainer says he's...

Poll: Re: How do you pronounce Gentoo?

In most European languages the "buntu"-words are pronounced "correctly", ie as "ooboontoo", "kooboontoo", "edooboontoo", etc, so that's not an issue.

Re: How did you hear about Ubuntu?

Read a review, downloaded the ISO-file and tried it out. I didn't use Ubuntu all the time since then, but well that's the first time I heard/read about it.
  8. Re: How come firefox doesn't support CSS scrollbars?

CSS is a language to style webpages.
The scrollbar is part of the browser, not of a webpage.
Hence you can't modify the scrollbar using CSS.

I hope this makes some sense.

Re: Could this kill linux gaming?

    Very well written.
Some users only see the short term consequences: Install eg the proprietary nvidia driver and have some 3D functionality. Don't install it - no 3D functionality.
    But how did it...

I agree with the thread starter.
My thoughts: Novell only recently started their business as a GNU/Linux-distributor by buying SUSE, a widespread, KDE based distribution. Then some Ximian people...

Re: HOWTO: Install Latest Tracker (desktop search)

The Tracker daemon itself is desktop agnostic, ie it doesn't care which desktop environments you use. The only thing you need to look for is a KDE GUI for Tracker (written in QT). Maybe a KDE user...

    I disagree.

Intel is the market leader with a market share of 35%.

True, but those PCs present the vast majority of all PCs.
This couldn't be further from the truth. Intel sold Chipsets...

Re: Xen virtualization -- What is it capable of?

    Xen runs on 32bit processors.

And AFAIK there is 3D support, however you'll have to hack some files to get it working and even then there are some issues left.

Re: Encrypted Swap and Home with LUKS

That was a misunderstanding. I meant in every case when you want to keep the data in the swap partition. If there's no need for that then a random key is just fine.
  24. Re: Dance to music on YouTube, get sued by the RIAA.

I agree with 23meg. The MAFIA uses *your* money to sue other people. Not to mention that they are the driving force behind the war against civil rights.

In the howto, the swap partition is encrypted using a random key. That means the swap partition is encrypted with a new key at every reboot and then reformatted, since the old content obviously...
