Thanks, please note the time on your computer before attempting a shutdown. Then, after the hang, reboot and run these commands:
cat /var/log/messages > ~/Desktop/messages.txt
cat /var/log/syslog...
They could be related. That's a kernel panic. Please go to a terminal and run this command...
sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-backports-modules-intrepid
...and see if that fixes it.
