  1. Re: Keyboard problems, setting 3rd level chooser and Meta key in Unity

    Hi again,

I realized that this would probably be best achieved by modifying the xkb-layouts in /usr/share/X11/xkb. I did the following:

    1.
    The file /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/evdev controls...
  2. Keyboard problems, setting 3rd level chooser and Meta key in Unity

    Hi all,

I've just installed 14.04, and had some problem setting up my keyboard correctly.

I'm using a Swedish keyboard (MacBook computer), and I like being able to switch between Swedish and...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Desktop Resource Monitor is different to "TOP"?

Hi, I don't know about Desktop Resource Monitor, but I compared top with System Monitor (installed by default), and they did far from agree.

I think it is like this: top reports how much ram is...

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

This question is slightly different than the topic of the thread, which means you should ask this in a new thread with an appropriate title.

[ubuntu] Re: Install and configure openssh

    Hi,

The first thing you want to try after installing openssh-server, is the command

    ssh localhost

which will check that server is up and running etc.

If that works, you need to know...

[other] Re: Python can't find it's modules

Okay, then it sounds like we might have found the problem. It could of course be that python2.5 has it's modules somewhere else, perhaps in /usr/lib/python2.5, I know too little to say for sure.

So dpkg lists it as installed, but have you checked whether bonobo's actual files and folders exists/are in the right place?

On my system, where importing bonobo works, the bonobo module folder...

  11. [ubuntu] Re: Choosing the correct locale during installation

If it's just a UI miss in the installer you could probably fix it afterwards in gnome-language-selector. At least that's possible in Lucid.

  13. [ubuntu] Re: Can only boot with 'Ubuntu failsafe graphics mode" (nvidia gc issue) +

Good, let's see what that gives us.

I would also recommend you to do:

    ls /var/log/Xorg*

it will give you a list of Xorg logs - at least one of them should contain the reason you get...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Can only boot with 'Ubuntu failsafe graphics mode" (nvidia gc issue) +

Oh, I see. It's actually normal to have an empty xorg.conf, but I thought you said above your xorg.conf contained a lot of code.

Anyway, in that case you could try the auto-generate xorg.conf...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Can only boot with 'Ubuntu failsafe graphics mode" (nvidia gc issue) +

If that doesn't work, auto generate xorg.conf with the Nvidia card removed:

  16. [ubuntu] Re: Can only boot with 'Ubuntu failsafe graphics mode" (nvidia gc issue) +

I think your nvidia card is broken, it's probably better not have it plugged in at all.

Also, I think Ubuntu automatically chooses the old interface when it is detecting insufficient graphics...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Can only boot with 'Ubuntu failsafe graphics mode" (nvidia gc issue) +

Try to remove the section with nvidia from your xorg.conf (make a backup first).
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Can only boot with 'Ubuntu failsafe graphics mode" (nvidia gc issue) +

    Two questions:

What's in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you have one)?

If you click System->Administration->Hardware Drivers, does it say anything about your graphics driver?

    I guess my suspicion is...

I think it's because your login file starts with:

    #!/bin/bash

    but your logout doesn't.

Also I'd presume logout is not executable. The reason it doesn't have to be
