[xubuntu] Re: OMG it's fast! Why?

Not really. Using Ubuntu my start-up time went down by more than 20 seconds compared to the same setup using Debian.
On Debian I got a start-up Time of 36 seconds on an 1GHZ P3 with 256MB of RAM but...

    Re: Arduino Software

Well, we allready have avr-gcc and all it's doodads.
That works perfectly together with avrdude for my own ATmega32-Board.
It should also work for the Arduino.

[ubuntu] Re: How do I convert .oga to .mp3?

.oga is a far superior file-format compared to .mp3.
But since it is also a lossy format you should not convert it to another lossy format, the resulting soundquality will be miserable.
    If you...

Re: On Ubuntu: Python or C#

Complete BS. A proper JIT can make your code run faster than a normal AOT can.
Take a look at Pypy, those people are doing pretty revolutionary work there.
For a "IDE" I would recommend SPE; Stanis...

    Re: Is Compiz dead.....???

It's a compositing-manager. It's purpose is to offload the drawing of the things you see, your U.I., to the graphics-card, wich is idling around normally most of the time.
    This saves on CPU-power...

    Re: Virtualbox...MAC OSX...

It's written in their license-agreement that it is forbidden to install OSX on any non-APPLE Pc.
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Does ubuntu server 32bit use more then 2gb ram?

While those calculations may be correct, the answer isn't correct.
The server-edition of Ubuntu can use more than 4GB of RAM due to PAE.
    Google it for more information.

    [ubuntu] Re: Middle mouse button

In Linux the Middle-mouse-button is reserverd for a far more usefull feature, though you can change it in Firefoxs about:config.
It's there for copy and paste. To do this; simply mark the text with...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 32 bit X86 on vista as virtual PC

MS Virtual PC is not designed to run any other Operating System other than Microsofts own ones and Suse Linux. Get a real Virtual Machine like Virtualbox.

[ubuntu] Re: Why vlc looks like this?

VLC doesn't use GTK anymore. They switched to QT, so you need to change your QT-theme too.

    Re: Dependecy to compile usplash

You can use the build-dep option of apt-get to get dependecies for compilation.
The syntax should be: sudo apt-get build-dep <appname>

  19. [ubuntu] Re: Frets On Fire - slow on linux, fast on windows!

Yes you have direct-rendering. But you are using a Software-renderer for this, heck you are experiencing high CPU-usage because it is using the CPU to render and not the graphics-card.
  20. Re: Programming languages advice requested - newbie looking for new languages

    As for the scripting-language part.

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Frets On Fire - slow on linux, fast on windows!

There is your problem. You are using a software-renderer for your 3D.
You should find out what graphics-card you have and what drivers you need to install to get real 3D-rendering. For AMD and...

  23. [all variants] Re: Journaled FS supported by Mac, Linux, and Windows?

How about setting up a server (a cheap 200MHZ thing is enough) connect the Harddrive to it and format it with whatever you want and then set up NFS.
I do it that way and it's fast enough for me.

[ubuntu] Re: GUI gcc IDE for Ubuntu (One like Dev-Cpp)?

DEV-CPP hasn't been updated since 2005! I would not advise using that.
A good, cross-platform and still developed IDE is Code::Blocks.
