correct me if I'm wrong but those commands will start pulseaudio as a system daemon. The intended method is to run pulse as a user daemon, says so right in the config.

I know what pulse and alsa are thank you. As I had explained my system was functional with pulse from the ppa (since jaunty release). when I said I purged alsa/pulse I meant that I purged then...
Thought I was done with these issues a long time ago. But one update and now... god I miss alsa. So here goes I did an update yesterday that DID NOT have anything to do with sound, minus the kernel....
