My 4820TG (ATI 5650 graphics) works quite well with ubuntu 10.10
But still have some problems :
First, I can't switch to ATI card. It can be powered ON/OFF only.

Maybe you can flash bios using freedos (which is a clone of ms dos..)
instead of a floppy, use a usb key !

According to the last posts, I understand that :
- Some of the Acer 4820TG have two graphic cards
- You can switch between them to reduce power consumption
- BUT switchable graphics...
