I have now managed to get Boxee working on my Ubuntu 11.10 installation only to find out later that the maker of the software is not supporting it anymore........suck my teeth!

Sounds as though you need to mount those drives.
First run
sudo fdisk -l
This tells you information you will need about the drives which are attached to your computer. You are looking for...
You first have to mount the USB Drive which will usually involve creating a mount point (usually in your Home directory). Have you tried to do this?
Can you say how you are connecting to the Mediatomb server i.e. by wireless or wired networking?
