  1. [ubuntu] Re: How to Download Distribution Upgrade for later installation?

Thanks for the warning. And I kinda' remember that imbroglio.

Fortunately, I keep everything in triplicate (and all my inbox folders are linked to a separate partition). If I try the live-CD and...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: How to Download Distribution Upgrade for later installation?

Okay, thanks for the answer. I'll explore the live-CD, possibly drug-induced, fever-vision of which you speak. ;-)
  3. [ubuntu] How to Download Distribution Upgrade for later installation?

Just a quick question, hopefully easy to answer:

While I have access to an ultra-fast (at the library let's say) connection, how do I download the necessary files for a distribution upgrade for...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Removing Intel Graphics Installer on 15.04 prior to 15.10 upgrade?

Okay, after some review, I think the better way to do this is (as posted by me here):

Find out what dkms package you're using:

    dpkg --list *dkms
You should get something like this:

    ...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Removing Intel Graphics Installer on 15.04 prior to 15.10 upgrade?

Okay, just to get the ball rolling, I'll see if I can get this right myself. Please correct if anyone sees anything wrong. I listed the dkms version I was running:

    dpkg --list *dkms

    ||/ Name ...
  6. [ubuntu] Removing Intel Graphics Installer on 15.04 prior to 15.10 upgrade?

The best information I could find was this:

    #source http://theclonker.de/?p=89
    sudo sh -c 'echo "\nPackage: *\nPin: release a=trusty*\nPin-Priority: 1001\n\nPackage: *\nPin: origin...
  7. Conky Manager in Ubuntu 15.04 | Missing Images?

Just installed Conky Manager on my daughter's 15.04 Ubuntu install -- at her request. She was excited then bummed that only a few of the themes actually worked. The problem is that none of the...

    Re: Question about Desktop Enviroments

Yes, it's subjective. I personally count the ability to move the panel and the/(or any) launcher as configurability (more so than any other feature). Unity doesn't allow it. You can't move the panel....

Thanks for the link. Informative. Am looking forward to the tearing issues being solved, potentially by Wayland or Mir.

  11. Re: Just reading that 16.04 will/might ship with Unity 8

I don't either. That's why the current plan appears to be a choice between 7 or 8.
  12. Re: Just reading that 16.04 will/might ship with Unity 8

As I understand it, the intent is to release two versions, one with Unity 8. It makes perfect sense to release Unity 8 as an LTS option. The advantage being that there are going to be users who jump...

Re: New Book For Learning Ubuntu

I once bought a book on Ubuntu with a free DVD. Could have been the same title but a much earlier version?

    I found it fairly useless.

The book primarily discussed how to use your GUI apps:...
  15. Re: Just reading that 16.04 will/might ship with Unity 8

I know, but it's still fairly dodgy, esp. with MIR. Looking forward to an official release. I'm putting my money on the possibility that they actually deliver this time.
  16. Just reading that 16.04 will/might ship with Unity 8

Distrowatch and Softpedia are both reporting that two versions of Ubuntu may be available with 16.04.

    Just wanted to say: :guitar:

I'm pulling for Ubuntu/Canonical. Can't wait to finally try...

    14.04 or 15.10?

A long while back, I installed Xubuntu 11.10 on a friend's little ASUS Meego laptop. She took it with her to Egypt and loved it.

She just returned it to me to update. Looking at it briefly, I can...

So, out of idle curiosity I was looking up the box jellyfish (the sea wasp), having the deadliest venom of any animal currently known on earth. One sting, apparently, could kill 60 humans.
