  2. Re: Linux Game publishing is having a 24 hour sale

It's a build problem with the disc, it has weird file permissions. The issue's documented on the FAQ page.

There are also updates avaiable. If you've already installed you can just run the auto...
  3. Re: Linux Game publishing is having a 24 hour sale

Just got X3 in the post. Bit of a novelty for me, it's the first time I've seen a game packaged up specifically for linux :) Whopping great manual too, very nice. Has anyone else noticed the text on...

[ubuntu] Re: Go back in time

    Hi Egi_Power,

Yes, that's correct. Because we renamed the file so it didn't exist and was recreated. Now that it's there again update-grub will re-use it and not touch anything after that...
  7. Re: Linux Game publishing is having a 24 hour sale

I ordered X3. Gotta show willing ;) I wouldn't have paid full price but that's because I'm not that dedicated a gamer rather than they're older titles.

[ubuntu] Re: Go back in time

Glad it worked for you :)

The easiest way to remove old kernels would be to go into Synaptic Package Manger (System->Administration menu) and type 2.6.24-19 into the search box ("name" only). Then...

[ubuntu] Re: Go back in time

Hmn... ok... the obvious thing to try now is removing (renaming) your current menu.lst and let it rebuild it from scratch...

    sudo mv /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst-backup

[ubuntu] Re: Go back in time

You should accept the new menu.lst when offered. It's rather confusing as it doesn't actually replace yours with a new one but updates it, which is what we want!

    For now try this...

    sudo...

Seriously? Does Prey have a "timedemo" function? We could get some comparison when the full client's released for Linux.

Re: PREY is now availabe for linux!!!

Just bought this on the strength of the demo, very enjoyable. Not that I advocate mindless violence you understand - not even to aliens ;) Reminds me of a cross between Quake 4 and Half Life 2.

    Re: problem restoring steam backup

I've never tried restoring a Steam backup but maybe it's trying to restore relative to the .exe's location, i.e. the DVD? Try copying the files to disk first.

    [ubuntu] Re: Nautilus ram usage

I discovered the memory hog... 'twas 'nautilus-clamscan'. Removing that got memory usage down to 38MB. I rarely use it anyway and had already written my own nautilus-action previously.

    Sorting out...

This is a well known problem with Compiz, normally solved by unticking 'Undirect Fullscreen Windows' in the 'General' section of 'CompizConfig Settings Manager'.
