At least partial success! I've been using the microcode update for a few days and I haven't had to reconnect. I haven't done any heavy traffic use yet, though.

I'm having the same problem, running Ubuntu 9.04 on a Vostro 1500. It's all kinds of irritating.
Edit: Just to note, I used Wicd rather than network-manager.
