I had three small problems that might be worth mentioning: : I had to find debpartial from an old distribution and use that. I'm using Hardy myself.
I downloaded the packages for Jaunty. I tried adding them through KPackageKit, but this didn't work as I had expected. So I added them with apt-cdrom like the guide said to, which worked just fine.
However, both KPackageKit and Adept failed to handle the DVD switching once I wanted to install something. Synaptic handles the DVD switching.
Sorry; some of the software your referencing is unfamiliar to me. I imagine you're not using Ubuntu, but some derivative such as Kubuntu.
These instructions are specifically for Ubuntu. I'm sorry if they don't meet your needs. While I have enjoyed the K Desktop Environment in the past, its similarity to Windows tends to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Therefore I avoid it if I can.
Thank you for noting that "KPackageKit" and "Adept" fail to add repository DVDs to the list of available packages. And as you stated apt-cdrom at the command prompt does to the trick, proving once again the power of the Linux command line. I'll make a note of that in my tutorial.

example we want to install abiword, the require 5 files. 2 on disk 1 and 3 on disk 2.
Jaunty will take all necessary file on disk 1 then require disk 2, while the Karmic different, Karmic took a file on disk 1 and then ask for the file on disk 2 and back to disk 1 again.
It would be very annoying when you install ubuntu-restricted-extra
Re: How To: Make Your Own Ubuntu Repository DVDs
I suggest that you load the contents of the disks onto your PC then. I think Luvr has that covered in one of his posts in this thread.

Dolphin: can you download the repositories when using Karmic? Or are you just having difficulty following my tutorial? It would help to have some tutorial-specific issues and not "too many error".
Re: How To: Make Your Own Ubuntu Repository DVDs
this is a wonderful tutorial.
thank you very much.

Q2: Why don't I skip this mess and download pre-made DVD ISOs?
A1. Pre-made DVD ISOs are fine for a single, never-to-be-repeated download (if time is an issue). Here's the difficulty: to get updates means downloading the ISOs again (sorta time consuming). If a single ISO download is right for you -- use this link: ftp://ftp.leg.uct.ac.za/pub/linux/ub...-packages-dvd/
btw im running jaunty, so where can i find a pre made DVD?
and why can't Canonical release these type of official pre-made DVDs so that ppl with slow internet may benifit.
Re: How To: Make Your Own Ubuntu Repository DVDs
is it possible to download one DVD perday, without me sitting 23 hours in the internet cafe?
