Re: HOWTO: Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless (Broadcom 1390 WLAN)
Okay, so, I'm following the steps on your guide, and when I get to the apt-get update part, it does all the necessary stuff. But when you say to use the internet to get the ndiswrapper, I can't do that because I don't have an internet connection (I did, however, get them on the laptop by using a different computer. I just used a flash drive). I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I placed both files on my desktop. I extract ndiswrapper and I get a new folder on the desktop (ndiswrapper-1.46) and I blacklist the other driver. REBOOT.
I do the uninstall, only get the "removing" line once. When I do "sudo make," I get the same stuff reuben got:

This also shows up when I do "sudo make install."
Something tells me this isn't right. After I did that, I extracted R151517.exe to a folder, and I did "sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf" and "sudo ndiswrapper -l" and get the message "sudo: ndiswrapper: command not found."
So...what's wrong? Lol.

Re: HOWTO: Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless (Broadcom 1390 WLAN)
paperdiesel,
Your guide worked perfectly! (Dell Inspiron E1405, Feisty Fawn 7.04)
One simple question, how can I get my system to connect to my wireless network on bootup? I'm connecting to an unsecured network with a non-broadcasted SSID and have to open 'Network Manager > Connect to Other Wireless Connection' and type it in on each boot.
Thanks again!

I got so far and everything was working just fine--what an EXCELLENT HOW-TO this is--and then the process stopped working
Below is the message I got that indicated that I had not done evertyhing right and some fo the information the HOW-TO asks for.
Thanks for trying to help

Hey -- not sure about that one. Since you're using Feisty, it stores its network settings in a new way so I'd have to look in to it. Did you try searching this forum for similar questions? Or even look on network-manager's website or read the faq? I'd start there first.

You have multiple drivers installed. Remove all of the drivers then re-install the one from this how-to. I covered this in more detail a few posts back -- look there first.
Re: HOWTO: Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless (Broadcom 1390 WLAN)
This worked great on my Dell Latitude D620.
I did the following to get build-essential Without Network Access.
(I insert my Feisty Fawn Ubuntu Live CD)
(And then type these commands.)
sudo apt-cdrom add
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install build-essential
I have tried a bunch of other things, and this is the only How-To that I could get to work.
(P.S. wicd is a little client that you can use if you don't want to mess with the annoying keyring manager.)
Re: HOWTO: Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless (Broadcom 1390 WLAN)
worked like a charm on my gateway mx6453 laptop. :D
followed the guide in the first post of this thread on a fresh install of kubuntu 7.04 with no problems at all. i first tried it on an existing install but could not get it working. since that install was only a few days old, i simply wiped it out and installed fresh.
worked great that time! ;)
sound, wireless, ati drivers as well as xgl/beryl are all working on this laptop thanks to all the great help here.
a big thanks to all.

Re: HOWTO: Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless (Broadcom 1390 WLAN)
I am a complete computer nOOb.
Do I need to be already connected to the internet for this wireless setup to work?
Re: HOWTO: Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless (Broadcom 1390 WLAN)
I'm new and i dont know what you mean when you say" in the terminal, go to the directory where you extracted ndiswrapper"
how do i do that?
