Slackware vs. Ubuntu?

Install Slackware. As a part of the install install KDE.

The default is to boot to init 2 which is CLI. Change the default to init 4. You can do this via grub or via slackware.

It is not hard.

Edit inittab, change it to read:

# Default runlevel.
id:4:initdefault:

Slackware 10.2 is somewhat outdated and I would advise Zenwalk for the time being. You do know Slackware 11.0 is in RC5? I am anxiously awating Slackware 11.0.

I use ZenWalk for a PII box with 128 MB RAM and it works great. I highly recommend it for ease of use and usability with older hardware.

This is an excellent Slackware resource and contains a ton of helpful info including howtos, etc.

IMHO this is an invaluable starting point reference.

Also there is an excellent freenode.org irc channel (##slackware)
