Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
Well I slept on this issue and then went back to another of my posts on another forum and was given a hint.
So, I decided to go back to Windows and look at the sharing I established on the drive. Under the Share tab there is a checkbox against "Allow network users to change my files". Well it wasn't ticked.
Changed this to be ticked, went back to Kubuntu and it created the file successfully.
The post, pointed out that ntfs-3g is only usable for locally mounted drives and not across networks.
Maybe, this will be helpful to someone else or give them something else to check.
Thanks for the great HowTo, I know it will help me in the future when I set up my own server.

execute:
man ntfsundelete
Basically, it lists deleted files or, optionally, undelete's them. Teh only tricky bit is that it uses hte device name ("/dev/hdb1") instead of the mout point ("/media/winxp").

Just downloaded Hardy Heron then found this thread. Lousy timing! Does this fix work with Hardy?

NTFS-3G is built in to Hardy. This thread is only useful to users of older versions of Ubuntu.
Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
Hello,
It has been a very long time I didn't go here....
I installed recently the new ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04.
And I want to know how I can auto mount ntfs partition when gnome launch.
Because I must clic on the volume in the menu "Raccourcis" (sorry it's in french, and I don't know how it is call in english) ti have the partition mounted. Then I can access it, and for example the wallpaper is shown on my desktop.
The partition I want to be auto monted is located here :
/media/STOCKAGE
Here you have my fstab :
Code:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/sda6
UUID=6523d9ef-e07a-48bf-86cb-a8328e2fcaa5 / ext3 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/sda8
UUID=f59fedf2-decb-4622-be68-2e73e88a0f64 /home ext3 relatime 0 2
# /dev/sda7
UUID=dc8a3772-1364-46b6-b19b-121bab521a27 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
## usbfs is the USB group in fstab file:
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=125,devmode=664 0 0
Thanks for the help you give me.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to do, but you might find the fstab thread to be helpful.

The bottom line is that this thread is seriously outdated and should no longer be followed.
Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
Does ntfs-3g updates the USN journal of the NTFS volume? If yes where can I look into the source code which does the same. Thanks.
