My old laptop of several years recently died, and I'm in the market for a new one. I'd like to find something Ubuntu-friendly below $500 (preferably below $350), that gives me the biggest bang for my buck. I have been considering some of the Chromebooks, but I'm not thrilled with the idea of using ChrUbuntu, since it seems somewhat messy based on what I've read. I haven't had much luck on this search myself since it's hard for me to weed out the cheap-but-good laptops from the not-so-good ones, so if any of you who have more expertise in this area have some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Re: Budget laptop?
I recently purchased an Asus X501A. No issues at all, everything worked out of the box.
