Odd error screen.
For the last six or seven months, I've been receiving an error screen whenever it's time to download or update my system. It always comes up with a, "Close" box attach. It didn't really bother me until now. It's currently preventing me from upgrading my system to both Ubuntu 12 from 10 and getting the Netflix fix. It's apparently interrupting downloads of certain files and programs at random. The message reads;
W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/licid/partner Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_partner_b inary-i386_Packages)
What would be the easiest way to fix this?...
-
Re: Odd error screen.
Can you post the output of...
Code:
cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list
There is a duplicate line in that file that needs deleting. Once we know which one I can give you the steps needed to fix it.

Re: Odd error screen.
For some reason you have karmic in your lucid sources list. Comment out (##) those four karmic sources and update.
To edit your sources.list:
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
To update:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
Your update should come back error free. If not, please post any errors.

Re: Odd error screen.
Ok, lets get your PPAs out of the picture
Code:
sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d /etc/apt/sources.list.d.old
Code:
sudo apt-get update
Any errors?
-
Re: Odd error screen.
sudo apt-get update
E: Type '1' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
-
Re: Odd error screen.
I think I may have fixed it. I took out the number "1" on line one and re-ran the update. I got a message similar to the first but it said Type "2" was the problem. So I removed the number two and so forth. When I got down to line 5 I just deleted all the numbered lines from the list. I think it updated, because the system is telling that I have some 39 things to update now, where before I could only get an excuse why I couldn't do anything before.
