Fresh Ubuntu 12.10 install issues
I installed 12.10 onto an old Dell Dimension 2400 I have. It was previously running Windows XP with no issues and runs Ubuntu 9.10 fine as well. However now that I have 12.10 installed, the CPU is running at nearly 100% while just sitting at the desktop. At times it will be at about 7% but then will jump up to anywhere between 75% and 100% making it nearly unusable. htop shows "/usr/binX :0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch -background none" as using the majority of the CPU. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
