Audio cd not recognized

Hi,

even though my drive automounts and plays dvds, it refuses to do the same with cds.

When I insert an audio cd it spins for a few seconds then the yellow light on the drive stays on and it cannot even be manually mounted.

I followed the advice on this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1489304, but it didn't solve my issue.

I'm running 12.04 on a toshiba laptop with a matshita uj-841s drive. The drive has been confirmed to work properly under windows and the cds I'm using are also confirmed to work.
