Installation on a Lenovo Ideapad S300
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 on a Lenovo Ideapad S300. It has a special power button on the side in order to get to the boot menu. I've created bootable USB sticks with various programs (e.g. unetbootin). All of them fail the same way. When the computer is turned on (using either of the power buttons) the Lenovo (BIOS) logo is displayed then the computer turns off and on and off and on and...
Pls help I'm stuck with Windows 8 and it's embarrassing and super scary!!

I could never get to the BIOS menu or the BIOS boot menu with a USB stick connected. I fiddled around with some of the few settings in the BIOS menu (e.g. "Secure Boot" and "Legacy support"). It's a UEFI BIOS and there is some help out there but nothing helped. It just froze.
So I contacted Lenovo support who said it should be possible (just as the documentation said) to install other OS:s. I was surprised how positive and friendly the customer support agent was. He eventually declared my laptop DOA. I tried to get him to figure out the problem before doing a Windows fix (reboot and replace). The new laptop did the same. I think my suspicion is correct, that it's a problem with the BIOS driver.
So I got an ASUS Zenboox UX32A. It lasted two hours before it died. The screen suddenly turned black (still running Windoze) and wouldn't start again. So I did the third DoA on one day. That's got to be a record - I even asked for a VIP card at the computer store. The second ASUS laptop is still working...
