LogMeIn Hamachi Alternatives
Hey Everyone,
I'm thinking of setting up a minecraft server on my Ubuntu machine and I usually use hamachi (on my win7 laptop) to allow friends to connect to a server but there are a couple of concerns with linux hamachi:
1. It is only in beta for Linux (no gui, just command line)
2. It allows 4 people max on the free version
Does anyone know of any free software which is a reliable alternative to hamachi? What are your experiences with these programs?
Cheers,
Stu

1. Yes, its still in beta :( (but here's a gui)
2. $29 dollar for a year isn't that much, especially if you split it with your friends...
Re: LogMeIn Hamachi Alternatives
I personally use OpenVPN, but I wouldn't exactly call it a Hamachi alternative. Hamachi is P2P, while OpenVPN is a client-server setup, and all traffic goes through a central VPN server.
I have not experimented with this program much, but you might want to have a look at Tinc. It's P2P like Hamachi. http://tinc-vpn.org/

How well does OpenVPN work?
And does someone know if free hamachi is good or not?
Re: LogMeIn Hamachi Alternatives
why do you need hamachi for a MC server?
just forward your ports http://portforward.com/
and give them your IP http://whatismyip.com
or get a no-ip http://support.no-ip.com/customer/po...ient-on-ubuntu

because in some games a server can only be created to play in LAN.
Re: LogMeIn Hamachi Alternatives
Install Hamachi from http://secure.logmein.com/us/labs
Then install Haguichi (a very nice GUI for Hamachi) here: http://www.haguichi.net/download/
Then just run Haguichi - if you can work Hamachi in Windows you can work Haguichi.
