and do we know for sure unity is going to be ported to gnome3?
I'm in this time. I've missed the last few versions, but I need to make sure things aren't left out of the next release. My main priorities will making sure there is an adequate replacement for 'Places' menu from the gnome2 panel and also making sure there is a quick and simple way to open applications. These are the two main issues I had with Unity so I'm going to push for a resolution on them.I had alot of bookmarked shares that I kept in 'Places' and it really frustrates me that I now need to click into nautilus first to access my bookmarks. I'm also having alot of issues multitasking with Unity and will be pushing for improvement in that.
I'd rather not do anything, I'm pretty much a numnut. I only have a good concept on GB's and MB's and so on(and a bit of the terminal...
I've never been alpha-testing, and I really don't have time to do the whole "launchpad-committed" kinda testing atm.
But I will give the alphas a whirl from time to time on my eee 901 and post some feedback. If Unity is going to change for the better it's going to happen in alpha.
I hope we will see thorough GTK+3 and Gnome3 porting into Oneiric.
It would make it easier to choose Gnome-shell for a personal desktop shell option.
That is possible only if Unity (the default shell) is ported into GTK+3.
If this Unity is stable by 12.04, it's going to need a LOT of testing between then and now. I can see that.
Usually jump in with the late Alphas, time to get in at the start and try to help with the testing.
I don't really know what this is all about, but I do have some extra partitions on my hdd that I'd like to contribute & help out.
Can someone tell me what this is all about & what I need to do to help & give me some links please?
Wow! :P Getting in a the beginning is really exciting.
Responses here would be very nice, it may help someone else as well, but feel free to pm me with any additional information.
