i am sorry but i stick to whast i said
i see it as primarily a generic image editor not specifically by any stretch of the imagination a photocentric program
showfoto on the other hand really is for photo and nothing else
check all the options for example under color/black and white...
by the way i love gimp and use it everyday but not often for photowork :KS:KS
There are a few photo retouch based programs worth looking at.
I generally use Digikam for this 2.0 will be out soon and looks really promising. The other option I quite like is DarkTable.
I tend to see such "Photo-centric" editors as too limited and hand-holding in what they do.
As I said, see the Gimp-Registry for scripts and plug-ins. I'm certainly not lacking for options for B&W type things.
Though for the vast majority of my photo work, I use Darktable now.
Now that one is new on me. Tried To install it yesterday on Natty. Using the Pascal de bruin ppa but it says broken packages
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
darktable : Depends: libexiv2-6 but it is not installable
E: Broken packages
If anyone knows how to install it on Natty would love to know
Personally I love GIMP, but for very basic editing and organizing, you can use Picasa 3 .
I don't hate the GIMP anymore. But I did before I found this site:
Because I hate software I have trouble using. Meet the GIMP has some nice video tutorials that walk a user through basic tools.
I used to have a lot of difficulty using InkScape. But since I've found these tutorials (again, more free online videos), my use of Inkscape has improved greatly: http://screencasters.heathenx.org/
Hope these references help.
