I have a Dell Dimension 2400 (2.66ghz) and run ubuntu 8.04.
I just installed ubuntu and went to youtube. It asked me to install 3 things so I did. (Adobe flash player 10, swfdec, and swf-gnash-plugin.) Everything installed fine, I restarted the browser clicked play on the video and NOTHING! Just black screen, tried waiting for up to an hour and no change.
Help would be very appreciated.
Have you tried installing the ubuntu-restricted-extras package? I believe flash and all its dependencies are included in that.

I installed it just 3 minutes ago. I can now view You Tube vids after one year of not seeing any.

Flash-Aid is the definite solution. Fixed mine too.
well i could allways see youtube, but vimeo and other sites continue to give me White, or black screen.
the flash aid dindt solved, the libhal didnt solved, and my other 1000 try's didnt solved, i dont know what to do more, does somebody have a solution or an awser for this?
i can see only youtube in my web browser, all the other sites with vids i cant.
