Empathy SHOULDN'T be default!
EMPATHETIC sucks bad. Its full of HUGE bugs and LITTLE features. I have no idea why this on earth was chosen for the default. The same as GWIBBER, that doesnt even work! This even WITH latest updates!? Why o why, I have no idea, because the concept is wonderful, its just totally unrealistic and NOT ready for the public
The Account protocols are forever taking bad moods and require restarting. Especially the butterfly one, which coincidently seems to take over 15mb RAM! Even when the protocols are offline, they take resources. Everything has to be killed if you wanna try another client!
It annoyingly sticks around the me menu or whatever the hell its called.
Block is a basic unified requirement and need. There is no arguments here, yet Empathetic doesn't have it, along side all the other basics that people expect to be there by default!
I am un-installing it and using another client. And you lot should join me. There are plenty in the Linux world to chose from.
SHAME ON YOU CANONICAL!
Re: Empathy SHOULDN'T be default!
So you are complaining that a program that does not work for you had to be uninstalled and you have to install something else? Empathy works great for me and I am sure a lot of other people. I have not seen any other complaints on this. Next time do a minimal install and just add the programs you want. Easy enough. SHAME ON YOU! :)

I prefer Pidgin myself, because I'm familiar with it (I came from Windows, and I liked Pidgin there). But Empathy is still a good client; just because it doesn't fit your (or my) needs, doesn't mean it won't for someone else. That's the principle behind Linux; if you don't like it, change it OR make it yourself.
Re: Empathy SHOULDN'T be default!
Gwibber and me have some issues, however Empathy works fine, and updates to the theme improve performance in it.
Re: Empathy SHOULDN'T be default!
I dislike using Gwibber and I hated Empathy the second time I used it. What? No chat history disable? Even though my account in Ubuntu requires a password, I still hate my chat history being recorded. Back to Pidgin, since I'm used to it anyway.
Re: Empathy SHOULDN'T be default!
lol, the devs bust their ***** on ubuntu ; an OS you use mind you. They probably chose empathy for a reason. You have an awesome OS that you paid nothing for and you're hostile over a messenger client. seriously...

Hostile? its more like a good moan! If it doesn't work, then you gotta let them know, else it wont get fixed! Please go troll else where :P

Well, if it is working fine for most people it could be a problem with your system. Ever think about that? The best place to let people know is to submit bug reports. Don't think the devs come to this forum much.
Re: Empathy SHOULDN'T be default!
In many ways I prefer Empathy to Pidgin, it does allow you to cam across OS's, which hasn't happened since Skype.
It's minimalistic and light, it also integrates beautifully with this OS.
I'm not sure what bugs you're talking about Empathy is actually one of the few apps I've used on Linux that has had little bugs. And you can remove Gwibber (like I did) and the me-indicator and messages-indicator sessions which will get rid of those useless icons for you. Not really too hard, takes less than 3 minutes to do that if you know what you're doing.
