Re: Share with the community your Lucid Lynx install/upgrade experience
Well, I did a both Upgrade AND an Install, but theres no choice for 'both'. http://ubuntuforums.org/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
Initially I installed 10.04 beta2 over the top of my preexisting 9.10. It pretty much clobbered 9.10 when what I had thought too accomplish was a side by side triple boot of WinXP, 9,x & 10.x.

Should have known better.
I ended up nuking the OS partition (from Orbit, natch) and after some housekeeping partition management/resizing, I installed version 10.04 (beta2) from the LiveCD.
I had to add Medibuntu, Non-Free, and other repositories to get it the way I wanted it to act, but all in all it worked flawlessly.
btw, a few notable gotchas:
- I had to install GNOME ALSA Mixer to get my Creative Labs Audigy2 sound card to work (the ol' Digital/Analog JACK toggle fix)
- 27APr-29APr2010; Everybody and their brother/sister is downloading, hitting, pinging, checking, verifying, upgrading, updating, downloading from the same servers I am. Stuff is slooooow.
- ver 10.x is the 1st version to work my wifi RALink chipset card right from the get-go. (Prior to this version I couldn't both boot the LiveCD AND surf the internet, I'd have to go hardline or dualboot to Windows.)
- I think the 10.04 beta2 LiveCD maaaybe be the 1st one to allow my relatively older DVD-RW/CDR burner to actually burn media to completion from within Ubuntu (prior to this I've had to, you guessed it; dual boot into WinXP to burn CD/DVDs.)
Over all my Intel Dual Core P4 @ 3GHz running, 2Gig RAM memoring, IDE based HD spinning, Audigy2 sound card having, NVidia GForce FX 5200 video card displaying computer is OkaleyDokaley.

Re: Share with the community your Lucid Lynx install/upgrade experience
Trying to keep it simple, I started with a completely fresh install in a virtual machine (VMware Player 3.0.1). This was from a BitTorrent download burned onto a bootable CD. The installation seemed to go smoothly, though very slow in some parts where it apparently needed to download from the server. However, the result was total failure. Can't even log in. Apparently the keyboard is not connecting to anything in the VM.
At least the mouse is working--but evidently worthless. Is there some way to activate a soft keyboard before logging in?
Not good. Can't even report the problem from inside the machine, nor collect any diagnostic information. You'd think that VMware is popular enough that they might have tested it, eh? You'd be thinking wrongly.
In the Koala upgrade, the sound cards on many machines were crippled, and it took several months before the errors started going away. I've already stopped recommending Ubuntu for new users, but at this point I'm about ready to drop it...
Re: Share with the community your Lucid Lynx install/upgrade experience
Installed 10.04 on my duel boot laptop flawlessly. No problems.
Installed it on my duel boot desktop and Firefox won't work. I went through the forums and tried all I saw and it did not work. Ran the firefox.sh file in terminal mode and firefox ran but without flash. I can use Opera or Chrome just fine until its fixed.
WORST thing however is now when I shut down and try to boot up to XP, the computer shuts down and boots back to Ubuntu. It will not let me go back to Windows.
OK, guys. I need some help getting back to Windoze...
Re: Share with the community your Lucid Lynx install/upgrade experience
Clean install, no problems whatsoever. All good.
Re: Share with the community your Lucid Lynx install/upgrade experience
Upgraded from 9.10, all good. Had to spend a lot time tinkering to get back to my nice customized desktop, but I expected that.
One question though...
What the H*** is up with the ugly 8-bit lookin nautilus? It's harshing my buzz, dammit.

And wth is with this new Upper Left Hand Corner w/ the X = Close, Middle/underscore = Minimize, Right = shrink to a non-full screen window action. Schtupid. Minimize should not be in the middle like that.

Easy fix: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/13535...-ubuntu-10.04/
As for me: I'm currently trying to install Lucid and so far it's working outside of having problems with the repos not cooperating. The newest version of Webmin works with 10.04 and it seems the same stuff I had on my server when it was running 9.10 works just fine with 10.04: DHCP, Samba, SSH, Webmin, HW Raid software/management.
I haven't tried virtualbox yet, since they don't have a lucid repo yet.
Re: Share with the community your Lucid Lynx install/upgrade experience
I upgraded from Karmic using the Alternate CD image. I did it a couple of weeks ago to a Beta 2 image and have kept up with the updates since then.
The only real issue I have found so far is that my ALSA driver was not updated. It only took me a few minutes to fix that, manually.
For me, Lucid has been a great release. Kudos!

upgrade from 9.10 went perfect, except for that. I really want those buttons back on the right side. For a moment i thought there was a terrible problem
