also in >places >computer i have generic multi card and zte mmc storage and after the first run of wvdial
one of them drops out sometimes it is generic multi card and others it is zte mmc storage that drops out
i dont now how you guys do this computer programing stuff all the time, you deserve a medal.
Re: 8.10 and USB Modem ZTE MF636BP / MF636
... and your last try:
- boot without modem
- from terminal: sudo stop network-manager
- from terminal: sudo killall modem-manager
- attach modem, wait 20 seconds (blue led preferred)
- check that you have 0031: lsusb
- try connection: sudo wvdial
(most are from post#46)
EDIT: other option is to use the last created ttyUSBx as the modem definition into /etc/wvdial.conf file:
from dmesg or ls /dev/ttyUSB* you can see the ttyUSB0,1,2 (possibly ttyUSB3 also). Then edit /etc/wvdial.conf to have Modem = /dev/ttyUSB2 (if ttyUSB2 is the last one).
>>> connection using MF636 is always 'under construction' with Ubuntu
Re: 8.10 and USB Modem ZTE MF636BP / MF636
ok i followed those steps and when i plug the modem in it goes to a solid blue light
and shows up on lsusb and then when i run wvdial i get the same results as my above post
#51 is it more likely that there is a problem with the computer itself or the modem(shouldnt be the modem it new and only got regestered last week)
thanks for all your help
Re: 8.10 and USB Modem ZTE MF636BP / MF636
Hi everyone,
Many thanks, I got the MF636 working with Bigpond on my Netbook, Ubuntu Lucid 10.4
Heres's my wvdial.conf :
[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB2
Modem Type = Analog Modem
ISDN = 0
Baud = 460800
Dial Attempts = 1
Username = ian.williams2@bigpond.com
Password = xxxxxxxxxx
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = AT&F &D2 &C1
Init3 = ATS7=60 S30=0 S0=0
Init4 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","telstra.bigpond"
Phone = *99***1#
Stupid Mode = 1
NOTE: the highest Modem reported by ls /dev/ttyU* was /dev/ttyUSB3 which did not work when I put it in the above .conf file.
