Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION
looks good as far as i can see. Only the driver fails to load.
[ 169.120] (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your
[ 169.120] (EE) NVIDIA: system's kernel log for additional error messages.
is there anything interresting in dmesg or syslog ? Seems I need to test this when i get to my eee. Thanks for your time
EDIT: Just realized that there was a known bug concerning mint display manager. Replace mdm with lightdm and nvidia mode will work.
Code:
sudo apt-get remove mdm
sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends lightdm gnome-settings-daemon unity-greeter ubuntu-mono light-themes

what i tried:
Code:
sudo display-settings reboot-nvidia
sudo reboot
Code:
sudo display-settings config-nvidia
(because not working ;))
-> logged out & in
Code:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
->logged out & in
(still not working)
Code:
sudo display-settings fix
->logged out & in
(result the same...;))
hmm but as long as optimus mode works :)
oh and after all this failed i deinstalleed lgihtdm and reinstalled mdm =D (i think its kind of faster -> and there are themes and so on =D)

The Intel-card now works for me, thank you! The Nvidia-Card isn't working anymore, X-server isn't starting. For me it's okay because I don't want to use it. I tested rev. 122, too, same problem.
Code:
update-alternatives --get-selections | grep i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf
gave
Code:
i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf auto /usr/lib/fglrx/alt_ld.so.conf
Perhaps there is the error for me because the link refers to the fglrx-driver for a ati-card I don't have :)
Anyway, thanks mtron for the quick help and preventing my 1015pn from overheating ;)

Hello
I did some tests with the two graphics cards for my problem.
If I use the intel graphics card I have the above problems (not answer whit "sudo display-setting status" and if i move the mouse the screen goes black in the startup screen) and I noticed another problem:
- while working suddenly the screen returns to black and the session is ended and you return to the startup screen.
If I start the nvidia ION grafic card I have no problems for this session, but the command "sudo display-setting status" still does not answer and, on the next reboot, the card intel start without being set
Tanks for your help
Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION
Hey mtron, how is it going with supporting linux mint 14? Any progress?

current Version should work. Just replace mdm with lightdm.
Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION
hello!
Nvidia finally offically introduced optimus support on Linux. This was a very long and hard battle and the nvidia linux devs are ~ 3 years late. But better late than never :P
Did anyone try the "Offloading Graphics Display with RandR 1.4" support of new nvidia drivers 319.12+ on our eeepc's ?
Appearantly this might simplify the needed job on our netbooks drastically. As i understand the doc all we need is a upstart job that permanently sets the reboot mode to optimus, the rest will be handled by the nvidia driver (minor customisation on xorg.conf is needed though)
Unfortunatly this needs some newer xrandr version than in raring so we will have to wait for a ppa to provide the needed randr version or worst case we have to wait for raring+1 .
But it seems this hack will be unnecessary very soon. Yay ... and thanks nVidia for finally supporting your own product ;)
Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION
Hello readers!
I have pushed a new version (eee1015pn-acpitools 0.9.2) to the ppa. It should get installed automatically once you run a system upgrade. To trigger such an upgrade now use
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Changelog:
* added Mint 14 and Ubuntu Raring 13.04 support
* fixed some more problems with new nvidia driver naming shema
* vga-selector-gui: fixed Second X-Server in Optirun Mode
Documentation /How to use:
http://mtron.co.nr/projects/eee1015pn
Distribution Upgrades:
If you plan to upgrade from quantal to raring make sure that you have min. 0.9.0 installed. After the upgrade completed run
Code:
sudo display-settings regenerate-glx
and reboot.
Release Notes:
This release fixes the (hopefully) last bugs with the new nvidia binary driver naming shema. Now both driver names (nvidia-current and nvidia-304, nvidia-310 ect.) will work. Also the optirunsession got some fixes and starting another X-Server on the nvidia gpu and draw to a hdmi device works again.
Have fun!
Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION
have just downloaded with the instructions from your site. computer loads up fine, but cinnamon crashes into fallback and is unable to recover. using mint 15.
Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION
replace mdm with lightdm. see the FAQ.
