Updates do not need root?
So I have done the latest updates for the past few days on Xubuntu 12.04 and noticed it has not been asking me for my password to authenticate it? Is this new? I still need to use my password to gain root privileges of course. Just not when updating. Just wondering, everything else seems to be fine. And it is running as smooth as the day I installed the OS.
Re: Updates do not need root?
Hi RadicaX.
Yes. That is the new normal.
Some updates though, will require your password. For instance, kernel updates or any other update that requires you to boot your machine after it's done.
Regards.
Re: Updates do not need root?
This has been the expected behaviour for some time now, ever since 11.10 was released.
There's an explanation on the wiki...

[Solved]Re: Updates do not need root?
Thank you both! I will be reading on the wiki about that. I had no clue they were going to do that. Thanks for helping out with that.
