Disagree with the user above you
The rules are pretty simple.
The poster above you has an assertion at the bottom of their post. You are to first disagree vehemently with it, and then post an assertion related to your disagreement with the previous poster.
I'll start:
Emacs is the most awesome editor in history.
EDIT:
My intention is that each poster uses TWO lines - one to disagree with the statement above him/her and one to compliment that disagreement.
So an example of a response would be
"
Emacs is a lousy piece of junk, even if you can easily use it to perform virtually any function you could expect from a text editor and more with a few keystrokes
Vim is far superior to emacs, although I have no idea why and think I just say so to feel different.
"

This thread should be in Cafe Games. (Unrelated, I know. Or is it?)
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Wrong forum, yup. Could a mod move it?
And do you have a keyboard shortcut to insert that picture? If not you should make one.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree with where this has been posted :P

I disagree that you're confusing me.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
moved without any disagreement at all
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
This thread should never have been moved! How could you?!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree with the rules of this thread, because surely if one was to follow the rules there would be a continuous agreement/disagreement with one particular argument?
I disagree with disagreeing to agreeably agreeing to move this thread.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
careful or i will close the thread with a vehement twist while refusing point blank to take any notice of any rules inherent in any of the posts in the thread i will close with a vehement twist while refusing point blank to take any notice of any rules inherent in any of the posts in the thread

Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree that we are going to keep agreeing and disagreeing about the same things.
The reason is that I also would like to note that I did not properly explain my concept:
I want *two* lines.
One - a disagreement; two - a statement relating to the disagreement. For example the first line here is the disagreement, and everything after that is the related statement.
So- for example
"
Post 1: Emacs is the most awesome editor ever
Post 2:
-laughing child"
Vim is, for some reason I can't explain, better. I think it just makes me feel different.
Post 3:
...
...
"

Re: Disagree with the user above you
Actually, I just re-read the rules and now disagree with what I just said.
I'm an idiot.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree that chriswyatt is an idiot.
Chriswyatt needs a boost to his self-esteem.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree with movement and vote for Inertia .
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree that that statement disagreed with my statement... I also disagree that it was two lines.
So I continue to assert that chriswyatt needs a boost to his self-esteem.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree that this thread has gone off topic about chriswyatt.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree!
You see, this thread has no topic.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree. the topic of this thread is "disagreeing".
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree!
This thread is deeper than that!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
This thread is about as shallow as rain on concrete. Simply posting "I disagree" is not the way to disagree - you need to at least explain why you think the user you disagree with, is wrong.
Also, this thread should be moved to 'recurring" - or do you really believe this is the only thread where every poster disagrees with the previous post ?
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
But you see, this thread is not like those threads, because in those other threads people *do* explain why the other user is wrong at great length!
I think that rather than moving flame wars to 'Recurring Discussions' they should simply be appended to this thread.
-

that's actually a good idea, if it wasn't for the fact that this thread is in "Cafe Games" - so appending to this thread would reduce these flame wars to mere games -- and everybody knows flame wars are serious business.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Flame wars are caused by those idiots who use vim instead of emacs and KDE instead of GNOME, and are not serious at all.
That kind of person should be relegated to this forum because they are like children.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree....
and by the way, NANO BEATS BOTH! HA HA!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree because Gedit is fine
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree coz Gedit is for GUI where nano is for terminal and works very nicely via SSH.
The amount of times I have SSH'd into someones box and found vi was pretty much broken made me switch to nano where the loonies that taught me 'stuff' were hell bent on the whole world BASHing it with vi.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
No. Gedit.
It has syntax highlighting!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree. I'm trying to insert some text in Italian and the "syntax" is screwed up. Just because I've chosen to install the OS in English doesn't mean all I write is in English.
But the syntax highlighting may bring those little emo kids on the right way, I'm fed up of seeing people writing like I no dat u did diz coz I was there but I dunno y u did diz, coz ur 2 dumb 2 undastnd diz?
Come on, you're on a forum, it's not like sending a text.. Or did they steal some keys from your keyboard, maybe?
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I totally disagree with julio_cortez being located at a private IP address in the C class - I can't disagree about his grievances above!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
see, that's where both you and julio_cortez are wrong. He's complaining about spelling and grammar checking, not syntax highlighting. Completely different thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syntax_highlighting
While we're on the subject : although spelling and grammar checking, and even syntax highlighting, can be useful features, people should just be able to write correctly without them. All this pampering and hand-holding makes people lazy and incompetent.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Spellchecking just makes spelling errors more amusing, like "discreet graphics cards" and my fairly frequent typos of things like "arrow" instead of "error." Syntax highlighting, on the other hand, does not make people sloppy. It is a very useful feature of a programming text editor! And emacs does it best, of course.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
programming text editors are overrated. When I learned programming, we didn't even have text editors, we had to concatenate stdin to a file
( try it: )
Code:
cat > file
;insert text,
;Ctrl+D to exit
syntax highlighting, my donkey! we couldn't even correct errors without rewriting the whole file. We learned to do things right in 1 go (and if you couldn't, start looking for a different job).
the unix way of doing things is to make programs that do 1 thing, and do it very well. emacs tries to do everything. I doubt it does anything reasonably well.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Very amusing thread. Since I'm too busy to formulate a proper dispute I'll just say:
Na Na Na Boo Boo !!!!!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Your "na na na boo boo" is in effective at projecting your feeling towards this thread you should be more specific, how could you just say na na na boo boo, that means nothing; why would you only say that.
Incoherent rambling is far more effective means of how you should respond to this thread.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
How dare you?! Incoherent rambling is banned in this thread!
This is a thread for intellectual giants.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
That is where you are wrong: Intellectual dwarves are welcome too!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Intellectual dwarves ar every much not welcome, on account of them eating the intellectual gnomes!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
There's no such thing as intellectual gnomes, so I doubt very much that intellectual dwarfs would be eating them. Intellectual giants no doubt do exist, but I haven't seen any lately.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Gnomes are highly intellectual and very much existent! Haven't you ever played WoW?
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I have never played WoW, but I know enough about gnomes to know that they are intelligent, and possess knowledge. That does not make them intellectual. They are doers rather than thinkers.
Come to think of it, it is no coincidence that Gnome, the desktop environment, has been called a desktop for idiots.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
"and I say, my opponents 3 cent gnome tax doesn't go too far enough"
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
You opponents 3 cent gnome tax goes too far!
Just because you're under 2 feet tall doesn't mean you don't have rights!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Well then what does it mean ?? It has to mean something. It can't be meaningless. Life is not without meaning. Neither is fermenting cheese.
I demand to know what it means.

meaning is context-sensitive, and context is subjective, and therefore it can mean anything to anyone, or nothing at all. So you're wrong.
It's not clear what yopu mean by 'neither is fermenting cheese". Are you saying fermenting cheese (whatever that is) is not without meaning ? Or that life can not be without cheese ?
I'd have to agree on that one : Life without cheese would be pretty meaningless.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Ha! How absurd. Life without cheese makes perfect sense as long as life still has chocolate and alcohol.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
You completely forgot refrigeration, without which chocolate spoils.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Um, chocolate does not spoil in any frame of time it is likely to exist. Cheese does, but as I said it is NOT strictly necessary.
-

cheese is a method of preserving milk, and dates back to way before refrigerators were invented. That makes it rather silly to create a cheese that requires refrigeration.
And although it's not strictly necessary, cheese is is one of the 5 essential words (or phrases) you need to know in the local language if you travel to a foreign country.
FYI, the absolute minimal vocabulary in any language is : bread, cheese, beer, where is the bathroom, do you want to go to bed with me.

Re: Disagree with the user above you
I totally disagree because it is koenn we are talking about and he was an **** about s&&t in another thread I participated in.
(I actually think koenn isn't a bad chappie really :)) :lolflag:
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
you couldn't be more wrong if you tried :
1- we were'nt talking about koenn
2- koenn was never an **** about s&&t in another thread
3- koen is not a "chappie"
and talking about pet food, i think "gourmet" pet food is one of the main perversities of western society.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Actually, the main perversity of western society is Microsoft.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Microsoft is merely a company selling products that people are willing to buy. If you find that perverse, you're saying that a capitalist free market economy is perverse, because it's that sort of economy that would produce companies like Microsoft.
-

That would be true if Billy wasn't at the helm but billy is at the helm so, mmmh.

:lolflag: Yes you were dude - wanna have it out in another thread?
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I actually have nothing against Bill Gates as a person - he seems to br an upstanding citizen who uses his money to support a vast amount of good work. I do have a problem with Microsoft as a company not because of their product (which is a piece of junk), but because of their anti-competitive practices.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I vaguely disagree with Zorgoth as I finish my last beer and crawl into bed to pass out and hope that I don't completely screw anything in particular at work up tomorrow!
I think Microsoft is really brilliant and I shouldn't have posted against them earlier! :lolflag: shoulda seen my first provocation!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
"brilliant" is an overstatement. Their commercial success has always depended largely on and marketing savvy and acquisition of products and companies.

Re: Disagree with the user above you
Microsoft are far from brilliant when compared to a consistent & proper OS crowd.
@koenn: I will PM it to you.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Must... disagree...
MS produce... the greatest... OS... in the history... of mankind...
*choke*
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
microsoft produces crap on the level of apple.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Rubbish; Apples make great cider, microsoft make lousy cider! :lolflag:
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Pears make better cider than apples. I could really do with some Kopparberg pear right now.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Never tried pear cider, so I can't really say. I don't especially like pears though so I'll keep the spirit of the thread alive and disagree with you.
Fermenting Cheese now, that's another story.

Actually fermented cheese is just so-so; like kombucha
: P
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Fermented cheese is not so-so. It's more like "so what".

Blue Cheese = LOVE, but only if you plug your nose.

Re: Disagree with the user above you
I do not have a problem with the smell; maybe you should spend some time around our male goat, he is in rut.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you

Its just plain smelly. . .
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Wrathful pixie is obviously, somewhat, sober and will be henceforth discluded from discussion!
I make plenty of sense! ((( :lolflag: )))
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
You do not make any sense at all.
I just don't know how.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Yes you do know how.
You just won't admit it.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
There's no way you can know what the user above you knows or doesn't know. Also, there's no way you can know what that user is or isn't willing to admit, if there is something to admit in the first place. Your entire post is nothing but speculation. I'm sure you have better things to do than this sort of nonsense.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
There's nothing more important than nonsense !!!
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I disagree, you're argument is to sane.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
I suppose uou meant 'too sane'.
There is no such thing as too sane.
-
Re: Disagree with the user above you
Inasmuch as it is actually a relative term, yes there is.
